Well, it's here.

Spring! This morning on my way to the bus, I got caught in a hail storm, and then by the time I got to work, it was practically sunny. Trees are budding, birds are chirping, the air is alternately clear with sunshine and thick with a bloomy glow. It's like the earth's pulse is just starting to come thrumming through the frozen layers of dirt and mud and dead stuff.

Chicago in the spring is great. Suddenly, the sidewalks are full of people and restaurants open their windows and put out their outdoor seating. And, while I always get excited when the first boats are put out in the harbor, in this particular short space of spring, the lake has a scrubbed-clean look, and I love it.  I am excited, though, to go to Indiana this weekend and see what spring's doing to the fields and grasses outside of the city. I bet it smells so good!

Yes, I think it's official. I am thoroughly smitten with spring. And the best thing about it is that this season is just a herald of warmer and lovelier days ahead; as my mom would say, "it's all before us."
